Rustique Bistro on Bowen

This small and cozy restaurant on Bowen island makes a big deal about good food!

The dinner specials are very special as was evidenced by the wonderful meals we all had last night. I started with the truffle fries coated in Parmesan cheese and just loved every crunchy bite dipped in the truffle mayo…exquisite!

I experienced the hand made Cannelloni stuffed with shrimp and spinach smothered with a lobster bisque, served with a fresh greens salad with a light oil and vinegar dressing, and I was not disappointed! It was much better than it sounds even…and that is …humm…delicious!

My daughter had the same main and we shared the truffle fries and we both reveled in the deliciousness of the truffle mayo with the lovely hint of Dijon mustard. Sophie also had the tuna ceviche as a starter and it was sooo good even I liked it (and I am not a fan of raw tuna). This delicate dish was not only flavorful but was absolutely beautifully presented on a large slice of radish with baby greens, drizzled with a sweet balsamic reduction, and slivers of pickled carrots.

Her partner went way out there in the field with the lamb shank served with roasted sprouts, mashed potatoes and veggies. It looked as good as it tasted. He started with a pate served with bites of beautiful bread, tiny pickles, and veggies.

We finished with a Grand Mariner cream desert and a lemon tart. Both were worth the few extra calories.

All in all this meal was wonderful, with rustic ambiance and attentive staff! Highly recommended.
