The National History Museum – Phnom Penh

Wow! Wow! Wow! what a great museum! (and it wasn’t closed)…good luck for us!

The beautiful setting and the wonderful exhibits make this museum a must see for anyone who is interested in the history and culture of the region. The exhibits were well organized and the explanations were very enlightening…we learned a lot about the area, the country and the mesh of religions (Hindu and Buddhist).

There were a lot of Buddha statues (but there always are a lot) and more than usual Hindu carvings and statues. But, generally and over all the religious aspects were set into the history of the country and the people which makes a lot of sense when you begin to understand the role that spirituality and religion plays in the daily lives of the people.

The building that houses the museum is in itself very beautiful with very traditional architecture and expansive and lovely gardens. Some exhibits are outside under canopy cover and the cooling breezes are very welcome.
We loved every minute of this experience.
It is an easy cab or tuk tuk ride from the center and is a reasonable price.

Recommended for the beauty of the complex and the well organized exhibits.
