On our first night on Aitutaki we were exhausted from our travel (a 45 min flight) from Rarotonga. So, we decided to go out for dinner and we did not have to go far. Right next door to Aretai Villas is a wonderful little open air, beachfront restaurant called Puffy’s.
Fish and chips to die for , and I’m guessing that some fish did indeed die for it!
The fish batter is light and golden crispy, the ‘chips’ are done to a tantalizing perfection and the salad…well I don’t mind saying the salad was the highlight of the meal. Bits of fresh fruit, crisp leafy greens, and a whole bunch of other goodness was lightly coated with the most wonderful slightly sweet dressing!
We dined with a lovely English couple who we had just met and they were as impressed with their steak and chips as we were our fish. A couple of glasses of wine and a few beer later we even went out of our way to have dessert.
We lucked out…but Puffy’s is not always open the days or hours specified on the sign. So, get a map of Aitutaki and look for the Puffy’s ad and give them a call. After all everyone here in Aitutaki is on ‘Island time’.
Highly recommended! We will return…
