Nea Anchiolos – Feels Like Home – TravelSpirit-The Hungry Traveler

We come to Nea Anchiolos every time we come to Greece because it feels like home! The place is a paradise and the people are absolutely wonderful, and the food is excellent!
A nice drive from Thessaloniki, with a beautiful award winning beach, and great restaurants and hotels right on the beach makes it easy and uncomplicated…stay awhile, you’ll love it as much as we do.

There are also some small archeological sites (Pyrasos) right in the town that are within walking distance of all hotels. These are not big sites but worth a look. We were lucky to find an open active dig at one small site. The town was replacing water line in the road and when they dug it up they found some items that made it worthwhile to continue to dig. So, they closed the road, continued the excavation, log and catalogue the finds and then lay the new water mains and cover it up and pave over it.

There are so many sites in Greece that every time you put a shovel in the ground ancient things pop up. It may not be the most elegant way but definitely the most effective way of continuing to unearth ancient objects and still go about daily life.

Nearby you will also find a Neolithic site dating back to about 7000BC. Sesklo site offers a rare look into the daily living of Neolithic communities. Definitely a good day trip!
