The Ancient Site at Messene

A UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the largest sites we have been to in Greece this site is downright boastful as one of the most important cities of ancient times. With an open active archeological dig happening while we were there we feel very grateful to have been able to speak to the… Continue reading The Ancient Site at Messene

Whirlwind travel to home base! And back to travel again!

After a 43 hour journey we arrived back home from Greece early October... with oh so many things to do to catch up. Trying to finish a renovation and addition to our home as well as get ready for four months in Belize was a little dauting at best. But, we managed to get everything… Continue reading Whirlwind travel to home base! And back to travel again!

Monemvasia Winery

This winery was highly recommended by our host at Lakonia Bay Apartments. So, we had to make the trip back up the winding road to the newly refurbished and recently reopened (in a new location) to the Monemvasia Winery. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monemvasia What an incredible set up they have. I was awe inspired by the size and… Continue reading Monemvasia Winery

Road to Lakonia Bay

As this is a road trip…as well as many of our other trips to Greece, we love to travel the back roads, take mountain roads less travelled, and drive along the sea side beach roads. Mycenean Cemetery at Dendra

This site is not big (easily walkable) but interesting. Tholos tombs, graves, and very interesting references to Minion influences here. There are a couple of horse burials as well as very interesting armor finds. The tombs are in good condition and it is easy access with no payment necessary. Recommended for anyone who enjoys ancient… Continue reading Mycenean Cemetery at Dendra

Bairaktaris Winery – Return to Nemea – its always wine o’clock!

What can I say … one of our favorite wineries in Greece! As usual we tasted some nice wines and then bought them! Adamanthea (the nymph in Greek mythology who hid Zeus from his father to save him from being killed) is still there hosting tastings and she was so kind to have pictures taken… Continue reading Bairaktaris Winery – Return to Nemea – its always wine o’clock!
